Premium Visa: useful for remote workers and longer stays

Mauritius states that the Premium Visa is for eligible non-citizens who want to stay for more than six months and up to one year as tourists, retirees, or professionals working remotely with their families; it is renewable, requires the main place of business and source of income to be outside Mauritius, and applicants should not enter the Mauritius labour market. The official Premium Visa page also refers to supporting evidence such as purpose of visit, accommodation, proof of long-stay plans, and sufficient travel and health insurance, and states that no processing fee applies to the Premium Visa. Residency.mu Premium Visa page

Occupation Permit and residence routes

Mauritius EDB guidance describes the Occupation Permit as a combined work and residence permit for Investor, Professional, and Self-Employed categories, while the Residence Permit route also includes retired non-citizens and dependents under separate criteria. EDB Occupation Permit guidelines

The same EDB guidance says applications are submitted online through the National E-Licensing System, supporting documents must be attached, and applications are validated by the Occupation Permit Unit and Passport & Immigration Office before approval steps and original document verification. Relocation readiness checklist

  • Clarify whether your income and business activity will remain outside Mauritius or move into Mauritius.
  • Prepare passport, proof of address, civil documents, professional background, police or character documents where required, and medical documentation where applicable.
  • Prepare banking evidence: source of funds, source of income, bank statements, contracts, pension income, investment records, or company documents.
  • Decide whether your move is temporary, remote-work based, investment-led, retirement-led, or connected to a Mauritius company.
  • Shortlist areas, rental budget, school or family needs, transport, and preferred arrival timing before searching for a home.

Why housing and banking should be planned early

Relocation documents often connect to accommodation, financial evidence, source of income, and practical credibility. A home-search brief, rental documents, bank readiness, and permit route should be coordinated rather than handled as separate last-minute tasks.
