Premium Visa: useful for remote workers and longer stays
The Economic Development Board (EDB) presents the Premium Visa as a one-year, renewable route for eligible non-citizens such as tourists, retirees, and professionals working remotely with their families, on the basis that the main place of business and source of income remain outside Mauritius. The EDB Premium Visa FAQ sets out the eligibility logic and supporting evidence applicants are expected to prepare, including purpose of stay, accommodation, long-stay plans, and travel and health insurance. EDB Premium Visa FAQ (PDF)
Occupation Permit and residence routes
The EDB describes the Occupation Permit as a combined work-and-residence permit available under Investor, Professional, and Self-Employed categories, alongside Residence Permit routes that also cover retired non-citizens and dependents under separate criteria. EDB Mauritius — Work & Live
EDB guidance indicates that applications are submitted online through the National E-Licensing System with supporting documents attached, and are reviewed by the relevant permit and immigration units before approval and original-document verification. EDB Mauritius — Work & Live
Relocation readiness checklist
- Clarify whether your income and business activity will remain outside Mauritius or move into Mauritius.
- Prepare passport, proof of address, civil documents, professional background, police or character documents where required, and medical documentation where applicable.
- Prepare banking evidence: source of funds, source of income, bank statements, contracts, pension income, investment records, or company documents.
- Decide whether your move is temporary, remote-work based, investment-led, retirement-led, or connected to a Mauritius company.
- Shortlist areas, rental budget, school or family needs, transport, and preferred arrival timing before searching for a home.
Why housing and banking should be planned early
Relocation documents often connect to accommodation, financial evidence, source of income, and practical credibility. A home-search brief, rental documents, bank readiness, and permit route should be coordinated rather than handled as separate last-minute tasks.
